New York City Economic Development Corporation (“NYCEDC”), on behalf of
the City of New York (the “City”), is seeking proposals from qualified
individuals, companies or organizations to lease, operate and maintain
a shared commercial kitchen space (“Kitchen”) of up to approximately
4,000 square feet in the market building at La Marqueta.

“50 States for Good” Initiative Offers Program Funding for Nonprofits

With
a total community action fund of $100,000, Tom's of Maine's "50 States
for Good" initiative is celebrating and rewarding nonprofits from
across the country whose efforts are focused on lasting, positive
change in the community. Tom's of Maine is hoping to inspire
participation from nonprofits of all sizes and is excited to hear about
the community projects that matter most to them. 501(c)(3)
organizations from across the country are encouraged to apply for
funding and invite their members/constituents to participate in the
process. Finalists will be selected by a judging panel based on
immediate achievability, positive impact in the community, and
engagement and mobilization among members of the community. After
finalists are selected, online voting by the public will determine

2009 Harry Chapin Self-Reliance Awards applications available

With
the generous support of the Harry Chapin Foundation, the Harry Chapin
Self-Reliance Awards program distributes cash grants ($7,000 maximum
award) to outstanding grassroots organizations in the United States
that have moved beyond charity to creating change in their communities.
Organizations selected as Harry Chapin Self-Reliance Award winners are
judged outstanding for their innovative and creative approaches to
fighting domestic hunger and poverty by empowering people and building
self-reliance.

Do you want a new chicken coop?

Just Food's City Chicken Project  is now accepting applications!

This summer, Just Food's City Chicken Project, with the support of Heifer International, can build you a new chicken coop and give you chickens for your garden.

Who can apply:
Community groups of 8 or more people can apply for this grant.  Individuals may not apply.  The community group must be located in NYC and must have enough outdoor space for hens (8 square feet per hen). Preference will be given to groups who plan to use the eggs to feed their community, and to groups that are located in neighborhoods that have fewer ways to get fresh, local food.

Call for Proposals for Communities Creating Healthy Environments (CCHE)

The Praxis Project is proud to announce the Call for Proposals for Communities Creating Healthy Environments (CCHE)-a
new grant initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to
support community organizing and policy advocacy to increase access to
healthy food and safe places to play in communities of color.  CCHE
will provide funding and technical assistance for up to ten local
community organizing groups and indigenous nations with grants of up to
$250,000 over three years.   Youth led organizing groups in communities
of color are strongly encouraged to apply.
