Open Networking Meeting: Tuesday, July 12
Engaging Children in Issues of Food, Health and Agriculture
Join us on Tuesday, July 12th, for a discussion around engaging youth in conversation and production in the areas of food, gardening, sustainability and wellness. School gardening projects have multiplied across the country over the past decade. In both elementary and secondary schools, educators and parents alike espouse the value of a garden-based academic approach, either as a core curriculum or as an add-on to the regular school day. Do gardens enrich the learning experience and help better to prepare students for higher education or roles in the workforce? Please join us for a lively conversation including recent work in school gardens, hydroponics, and aquaponics in NYC. Our panelists will include:
Pamela Koch, Executive Director, Center for Food & Environment, Teachers College Columbia University
Philson A.A. Warner, Founding Director, CUCE Hydroponics, Aquaculture, Aquaponics Learning Lab, Science, Technology & Sustainable Agriculture, Cornell University Cooperative Extension-NYC
Nancie Katz, Founder and Director, Seeds in the Middle
