Greenmarket Organization Information
The mission of Greenmarket, a program of GrowNYC, is to promote regional agriculture and ensure a continuing supply of fresh local produce for all New Yorkers. Greenmarket supports farmers and preserves farmland for the future by providing regional, small family farmers with opportunities to sell their fruits, vegetables and other farm products to New Yorkers.
Halsey Food Box Internship Description
The Food Box program offers a weekly source of fresh, locally grown produce in underserved neighborhoods through weekly distribution of a pre-packed box of seasonal produce. The product on offer resembles a CSA but allows clients to purchase by the week rather than committing to an entire season. GrowNYC seeks an independent, responsible intern to promote the program and conduct community outreach in East Harlem and work with community volunteers on the produce bag distribution day.
Responsibilities include
- 7-9 hours/week: 3 hours on Saturdays from 11 am-2pm at Food Box distribution site, 4-6 hours in the
office and conducting outreach in the field
- Oversee produce box distribution, operate an EBT terminal, collect payment, answer customer questions about produce
- Bring handouts with nutrition information, recipes, and other resources to provide to Food Box clients
- Meet with community volunteers and organizations to promote the Food Box in the East Harlem
community

Ideal Qualifications
- Able to begin in mid-September
-High school graduate (over 18 years old)
- Interest in the good food movement and/or related issues – including urban planning, food systems,
sustainable agriculture, event planning, small business administration, economic development
- Basic computer skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Documents and design programs a plus
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Flexible and easy going
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Fluency in languages other than English a plus
